TypeMatter CMS

Build structured websites that combine visual pages, Markdown, and live application data

TypeMatter is a CMS for creating product websites, institutional websites, documentation pages, and content-driven portals.

Use visual sections and widgets when you want page-builder control. Use markdown-xml when you want structured, text-based authoring. Use data widgets when the website needs to expose live information from the host system.

One CMS. Three strengths.

  • Visual designer for section-based pages
  • Markdown-xml for structured authored pages
  • Widgets for content, forms, media, and live data
  • Preview and live site generation

Authoring models

Choose the authoring style that fits the page

TypeMatter supports two authoring systems that work inside the same publishing model. Teams can build visual pages through a designer, or create structured pages using markdown-xml.

Visual designer

Build pages using sections and widgets. Authors can place content, images, sliders, galleries, forms, documents, and data widgets through the page builder interface.

Markdown-xml authoring

Create structured pages using Markdown plus layout elements such as sections, splits, grids, cards, panels, text blocks, badges, calls to action, and code panels.

How TypeMatter works

The website is modeled before it is published

TypeMatter keeps the website organized as a system: site structure, content model, page composition, widgets, and publishing all work together.

Website structure

Sites define the website. Modules organize major areas. Navigation connects pages through header, footer, and sidebar menus.

Content model

Page types define the kind of content your site needs. Pages are then created against those page types and maintained with fields, sections, widgets, and content.

Page composition

Pages can be assembled visually with sections and widgets, or authored as markdown-xml for clean, predictable structure.

Media and files

Images, documents, and website media are managed through the cloud file manager.

Forms and actions

Forms can be designed and placed on pages using form widgets and action-oriented content blocks.

Live data

Widgets can expose selected host-system data such as committees, events, staff, notices, courses, and activities.

CMS structure

More than flat pages

TypeMatter is useful when a website needs reusable structure instead of one-off content. Sites, modules, page types, pages, navigation, files, forms, and widgets give the website a maintainable foundation.

Core building blocks

  • Modules
  • Page Types

  • Navigation

  • Forms
  • Widgets

Widgets

Widgets connect content, layout, action, and live data

TypeMatter widgets are not limited to static content. They can render authored content, visual media, forms, and selected data from the host system.

Content widgets

Use content, image, slider, gallery, and document widgets to build rich website pages.

Data widgets

Expose application-backed information such as events, committees, staff, notices, courses, activities, and student voice.

Action widgets

Place forms and action boxes where the website needs user input, enquiry flows, or calls to action.

Host system data

Publish dynamic information without duplicating it

TypeMatter can surface selected data from the host application through widgets. Instead of manually copying committee details, events, staff lists, notices, or activities into website pages, the CMS can render them from configured system data.

This makes the public website a live extension of the underlying application.

Example data widgets

  • Committee List
  • Committee Detail
  • Event List
  • Staff List
  • Notice Board
  • Course List
  • Activity List
  • Student Voice
  • Alumni Form

Publishing flow

  1. Configure the site
  2. Create modules and navigation
  3. Define page types
  4. Build pages visually or with markdown-xml
  5. Add content, forms, media, and data widgets
  6. Preview the website
  7. Generate the live site

Preview to live

Review before publishing

TypeMatter supports preview and live generation, so teams can check the website before publishing it.

Sites can run under a TypeMatter URL segment or be mapped to a custom host.

TypeMatter brings together visual page building, markdown-xml authoring, reusable website structure, widgets, forms, files, themes, preview, publishing, and application-backed content.
